Obamacare in Florida: Requirements, Income Limits and Cost for 2027
To get Obamacare in Florida you must live in Florida, be a U.S. citizen or lawfully present, not be incarcerated and not have Medicare. For 2027 coverage, households earning roughly 100% to 400% of the federal poverty level ($15,960 to $63,840 for one person) can qualify for a premium tax credit.
Who can get a Florida Marketplace plan
You can buy a Marketplace plan in Florida if you:
- Live in Florida
- Are a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or lawfully present immigrant
- Are not incarcerated
- Are not enrolled in Medicare
You can buy a plan at any income. Your income decides whether you get help paying for it.
2027 income limits for premium tax credits
Tax credits for 2027 coverage use the 2026 federal poverty guidelines. These are approximate annual household incomes:
| Household size | 100% FPL (lower limit) | 400% FPL (upper limit) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $15,960 | $63,840 |
| 2 | $21,640 | $86,560 |
| 3 | $27,320 | $109,280 |
| 4 | $33,000 | $132,000 |
| 5 | $38,680 | $154,720 |
Each extra person adds $5,680 to the poverty level. Households from 100% to 250% FPL may also get cost-sharing reductions on Silver plans, which lower deductibles and copays.
Because the enhanced credits ended after 2025, households above 400% FPL generally do not qualify for a tax credit in 2027.
The Florida coverage gap
Florida has not expanded Medicaid. Adults with income below 100% FPL usually cannot get a Marketplace tax credit, and many of them do not qualify for Florida Medicaid either. If you are close to the 100% line, an accurate income estimate matters. Talk to an agent before you apply.
What affects your premium
- Age: older adults pay more.
- County: prices and carriers vary across Florida.
- Tobacco use: can raise your premium.
- Plan level: Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum.
- Household income and size: these set your tax credit.
Carriers on the Florida Marketplace can include Ambetter, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Oscar and Molina, depending on your county. See open enrollment 2027 dates or learn about individual and family plans.
